[Pre-LL+] Letters from Sohemia: Julian Maclaren-Ross

July 1, 2008
7:30 pmto10:00 pm

The Sohemian Society presents LETTERS FROM SOHEMIA: JULIAN MACLAREN-ROSS.

A celebration of the letters of Julian MacLaren-Ross, the British novelist described by John Betjeman as “One of our very best writers”. His reputation as a dandy in post-war London bohemia, his turbulent life and pivotal role in the Fitzrovian milieu has ensured iconic status and a constant interest in his work, while debt, alcoholism and a love of debauched living all featured heavily in his life, leading one of his biographers to refer to him as the “mediocre caretaker of his own immense talent”.

Introduction by JMR’s biographer, Paul Willetts, and readings by actors from the recently published Selected Letters: Julian Maclaren-Ross (Black Spring Press).

The Wheatsheaf, 25 Rathbone Place, North Soho, London W1.

Entrance free. £3.
