Anna Kavan: A Four-Author Tribute
| July 3, 2007 | ||
| 6:30 pm | to | 9:00 pm |
3rd July 2007 is the official publication date for Guilty by Anna Kavan (1901-1968). Guilty is Kavan’s 21st published work, coming from a manuscript that was presumed lost till it turned up recently in the University of Tulsa archives. Anna Kavan herself is now being rediscovered as one of the most original voices in 20th century British fiction and the most mysterious of modern authors: a manic depressive and heroin addict for many years, Kavan was, in spite of that, a prolific writer who was never afraid to change styles throughout her career - not to mention changing her identity (her real name was Helen Woods) in order to influence new writing styles. Destroying most of her correspondence and diaries before her death, she has remained an enigma.
Nevertheless, her work has continued to attract admirers and a quartet of writers will be celebrating this new publication and her oeuvre. The London Review Bookshop will be introducing Doris Lessing, Virginia Ironside, Brian Aldiss and Christopher Priest to discuss her work and take questions and comments from the audience.
