What’s an open Festival?

London Lit Plus (LL+) is an open festival, which means anyone can participate, and anyone can hold an event. All you have to do to be included is to submit your event, and we’ll add it to the list on this website. We want to showcase all the wonderful literary goings-on in London that we can in a two-week period.

The only conditions for entry are that it must be literary, it must be within the M25, and it must be taking place between the 5th and the 19th of July 2008.

We’d particularly like independent publishers and booksellers and schools to get involved, but everyone is invited.

What can I do?

First and foremost, you can spread the word about LL+ and attend some of the events - check out the full list of events for details - and remember, it’s growing all the time, so bookmark this site and come back often.

If you’re already running a literary event at this time, and you’d like to be included, let us know. If you’re not, why not? Organise an event in your local bookshop, persuade a friend to read their poetry, hold a literary pub quiz in your local - it’s all up to you. We’ll list it on the site and help you publicise it.

How can I help?

Apart from attending or seeting up events, we’re also looking for administrators, designers and sponsors. If you have time or money you could put towards this project, please drop us a line.

Who’s behind it?

LL+ was started in 2007 by a loose coalition of literary types with the simple aim of creating a non-commercial festival without an agenda, programmed by the people involved, to showcase the myriad of literary events that happen every week in London, but are frequently overlooked.

In the first year, LL+ had over thirty events, and over a thousand people attended at venues across the capital. In 2008, we’re hoping to do even better.

For two weeks this summer, we want to show just how diverse London’s literary culture really is.
